Pediatric Infections
PEDS INFECTION
In the neonatal period males are two times more likely to have a UTI compared with females. From 1-6 months the incidence is approximately equal. From 6-12 months the ratio of UTIs in males to females is 1 to 4.
12-30% of children with a symptomatic UTI will have a recurrence.(1,2,3,4,5) Renal scarring has been found in approximately 10% of children after first febrile UTI. (6) Data exists demonstrating that a 3-day course of methylprednisolone in conjunction with antibiotic therapy may reduce the occurrence and severity of renal scarring after acute pyelonephritis.44
