RECURRENT UTI
ANTIBIOTIC PROPHYLAXIS
One excellent review outlines options for recurrent UTI's. (1) Daily prophylaxis may work as good as post coital in some women. Acupuncture may work. A review of cranberry juice studies did not find benefit. Estrogen reduced UTI's in post-menopausal women but had increased vaginal irritation and poor compliance with no increased breast or endometrial cancer and no rise in serum estrogen from vaginal estrogen. Methanamine showed some smalle activity against UTI. Vaccines such as Uro-Vaxom showed decreased UTI. (1)
