Renal Cell Carcinoma
5 year cancer specific survival for patients with stage I disease that is resected is greater than 90% .(1,2) After a radical nephrectomy, up to 5% have local (3,6,7,8) and 15% have distant metastatic recurrence at a median of 9 years. (3) In lymph node positive disease recurrence rates can be as high as 80%. (4) See SURGERY for more detailed and extensive local recurrence statistics.
Stage is the most important prognostic factor. 5 year cancer specific survival rates are:(5)
